Sean Markey: A Newsletter
Everything old is new again.
I started my first newsletter in 2019 here on substack: sem = my initials. It was an SEO newsletter and I wrote specifically about domains and building things on domains. This newsletter evolved over time into the Rank Theory newsletter, and then to Ranks.com.
But here I am, back on Substack, writing about domains again.
I have found myself slowly moving away from SEO as it has changed in the last two years or so. Yes the foundation of good AI SEO is still SEO, but the era of building sites and rankings that matter, that really meant something and allowed you to be a builder and support yourself are long gone. Google killed them years before AI.
I never stopped loving domains, or identifying with the desire to build.
Now, though, I relate to it by helping others do it.
I’ve partnered with Shane Cultra and started Winterline, a digital asset brokerage whose main thesis is: the best assets aren’t for sale, so let us help you go acquire them.
As I move away from purely SEO, I move away from the brand Rank Theory (now redirects to my site SeanMarkey.com) and Ranks.com (which is for sale, holla).
Rather than purely focusing on one industry (SEO), this newsletter will focus on the intersection of a myriad of things that capture my attention, including but not limited to:
domains
branding
acquisitions
SEO (I wish I knew how to quit you)
buying digital assets
selling digital assets
building digital assets
publishing?
whatever, I contain multitudes.
Go to SeanMarkey.com for my regularly published notes and essays. Sign up to this newsletters for stuff I don’t publish on my site + to get a collection/notification of all the stuff I publish there.
If there’s one thing I can assure, that hopefully you know from having read my work elsewhere: it won’t be boring. The writing will be spicy. And it will never be written by AI.
So if that sounds interesting…
